UP faces rain-related deaths

Heavy rain claims several lives in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath orders quick relief

Heavy rainfall across Uttar Pradesh has caused loss of life, damage to property and major disruption to daily life in several districts. Continuous rain and lightning strikes have claimed multiple lives, while waterlogging and flooding have affected roads, homes and public services in many parts of the state.

Taking serious note of the situation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the deaths and directed officials to provide immediate assistance to affected families. He has instructed district authorities to assess the damage caused by rain, lightning and related incidents and ensure that compensation reaches eligible families within 24 hours.

The Chief Minister also asked senior officials to visit affected areas, meet victims and provide all possible support. He stressed that families who have suffered losses should receive help without delay. Along with offering condolences to the families of those who died, he also wished a speedy recovery for people injured in various rain-related incidents.

The state government is closely monitoring the situation as weather experts have predicted more rainfall in several parts of Uttar Pradesh over the next few days.

Lives lost in rain-related incidents

Among the latest victims were two women from Sant Kabir Nagar district who lost their lives after being struck by lightning while working in agricultural fields.

According to local officials, 17-year-old Chandni from Katya village and 60-year-old Varshana from Pratappur village were working separately in their fields when lightning struck. Both died on the spot. Authorities said reports have been prepared and government assistance will be provided to their families.

Before these incidents, at least eight other people had already died in different rain-related accidents across the state. Officials reported fatalities from districts including Sant Kabir Nagar, Kushinagar, Bulandshahr, Shamli and Ghaziabad.

In Kushinagar district, a tragic incident claimed the life of 14-year-old Rahul Kumar. He was standing near a field when lightning struck him. Reports said his mother had just harvested vegetables and was handing them to him when the lightning hit. The teenager died instantly. Police later stated that the family chose not to conduct a post-mortem examination.

Another heartbreaking incident occurred in Bulandshahr district. Heavy rainfall caused a wall to collapse in Mundakheda village, trapping several people. The victims were living in temporary tents set up near a vacant plot.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot after the collapse. However, three people lost their lives in the accident, while three others suffered injuries. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital and are currently receiving treatment.

In Shamli district, heavy rain led to the collapse of a tin shed wall. The accident killed 49-year-old Shahid and seriously injured his two sons, Aman and Nauman. Police officials said they quickly reached the scene and shifted all three to a hospital. Doctors declared Shahid dead, while his sons continue to receive medical care.

A tragic incident was also reported from Ghaziabad, where three-year-old Pallavi lost her life after being swept into a rainwater-filled drain outside her home. The child reportedly fell into accumulated water and was carried away by the strong flow. Local officials said assistance and compensation would be provided to her family according to government rules.

Flooding disrupts daily life

Apart from the loss of lives, heavy rainfall has caused major problems for residents across Uttar Pradesh. Roads, markets and residential areas have been flooded in many districts, making travel difficult and disrupting normal activities.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across the state until July 11. Weather experts have warned that some districts may receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. They have also predicted a drop in temperatures by around two to four degrees Celsius over the next few days.

Districts such as Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Sambhal and Badaun are expected to witness particularly heavy rainfall. Several other districts in western and central Uttar Pradesh may also experience intense showers.

In Ghaziabad, continuous rain created severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. Many roads were submerged, making it difficult for vehicles to move. A particularly alarming incident took place in Vasundhara Sector 13, where part of a residential road suddenly collapsed.

The road cave-in occurred near an under-construction basement. As the ground gave way, a parked car and a scooter fell into the pit. An electricity pole located nearby also collapsed into the hole. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that incident.

Due to the heavy rain warning issued by the weather department, the Ghaziabad district administration ordered the closure of schools affiliated with all education boards on Friday to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Nearby Noida also experienced serious waterlogging. Several roads were submerged under knee-deep water, causing vehicles to break down and leading to long traffic jams across the city. Residents faced delays while commuting, and many struggled to reach workplaces and schools.

The Transport Department office in Sector 33 of Noida was also flooded, affecting normal operations.

Similar scenes were reported in Prayagraj, where flooding entered important government facilities. Water accumulated inside the Civil Lines police station and the women's police station, creating difficulties for officials and visitors.

As heavy rain continues to affect different parts of Uttar Pradesh, authorities remain on alert. Emergency teams are monitoring vulnerable areas, while district administrations are working to provide relief wherever needed.

With more rainfall expected in the coming days, officials have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas and follow weather advisories. The state government has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to protect lives and provide assistance to those affected by the ongoing spell of severe weather.
